Abraham Rosa-Ramos was born on November 7, 1939 in the community of Pájaros in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. He was the second son of Mr. Alejo Rosa and Mrs. Ángela Ramos. His elementary school years were at the Primary School’s Second Unit of the Pájaros Community, now formerly known as Antonia Sáez Irizarry School. He later finished his high school at Bayamon’s Agustín Stahl High School and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.

Abraham was a very useful person. He exerted in his daily job as a construction worker and also as a civil and sports leader. He organized multiple Little League tournaments on behalf of the young people of our community. Being the good citizen that he was, he offered his services to the United States Army where he developed his skills in the art of boxing, sport that he began to practice as a hobby.

He also stood out as a great cooperative leader. He administered various cooperatives and he was distinguished for many years on this phase of his career. Today, one of the primary and most progressive Cooperative Associations in Puerto Rico holds Abraham Rosa’s name in honor of his hard work.

His interest for children was shown from early stages in his life. He enjoyed grouping kids of every age to offer his knowledge in various sports, holding it as an activity he took with much pride and enthusiasm; his favorite sports were baseball and boxing.

During his term of service in the army, he practiced boxing and competed in various regional tournaments; he later gave it up given that his parents did not approve of it.

Abraham died March 12, 1971, when he was just 31 years old. The legacy he left on cooperativism, fraternity and knowledge, and the proof of what a dedicated human being can do for the collective benefit of his community, is still present in our neighborhood.
